Legendary Ghanaian Asamoah Gyan Discusses His Plans To Coach Boyhood Club Asante Kotoko in the Future

Ghanaian icon Asamoah Gyan has shared his thoughts about one day leading his childhood team, Asante Kotoko.

Asamoah Gyan, with his 51 goals, is Ghana’s all-time top scorer and the greatest scoring African in World Cup history. However, upon his return to the local scene, he was unable to play for the giants of Ghana.

The former Black Stars striker, who announced his speedy comeback in October 2023, made his first appearance in domestic football since leaving Liberty Professionals in 2003 in search of better opportunities when he signed with Legon Cities for the 2021/22 season.

Many had predicted Gyan to sign with Asante Kotoko prior to joining Legon Cities.

The former Sunderland player, who lost out on the opportunity to play for Kotoko, stated in an interview with UTV that he would happily take Kotoko’s coaching position should the need arise in the future if he is interested in coaching.

Asked if he will be willing to coach Kotoko in future, he said, “Why not? I will gladly accept Kotoko’s coaching job if I’m into coaching”

The former captain of the Black Stars is eligible to become a coach because he has already obtained his UEFA B coaching license.

Following his announcement of his football retirement, Gyan has been working on several initiatives, one of which is the All Regional Games, which are scheduled for November 2024.

Prior to the general elections of 2024, the former captain of the Black Stars serves as the head of Dr. Bawumia’s manifesto committee.
