The 16-year-old Lamine Yamal kept up his impressive performance at his first European Championships as Spain defeated the hosts Germany 2-1 in Stuttgart to advance to the competition’s semi-finals.
Lamine Yamal, 16, made a second start on the right side for La Roja. The teenage star broke the record by playing in the quarterfinal of the Euros, becoming the youngest football player in history to do so.
The teenager gave the game a vibrant start, challenging the German defense every time and helping Spain generate opportunities.
By doing this, Yamal made history by being the first adolescent to generate more than 12 opportunities in a single European Championship competition.
Not content to stop there, the La Masia wonderkid was a major contributor to Spain’s first goal in the 51st minute when he set up Dani Olmo.
With that, Yamal has now tallied the most assists of any player in the competition with three at the UEFA Euro 2024.
In addition, he made history by being the first adolescent to ever record three or more assists at a single World Cup or European Championship.
In the sixty-third minute, Yamal exited the field to make room for his Barcelona colleague Ferran Torres, he dazzled the opposition with his cunning and wizardry on the field.
The 16-year-old had 32 touches, created three opportunities, and ended with two shots on goal (one on target) and an assist during his time on the field. Tenduels were also won by Yamal.
Yamal was identified by Germany midfielder Toni Kroos as one of the most dangerous players on the Spain team coming into the match, and the young player lived up to the hype.
