Laryea Kingston Explains Why Changing Black Stars coach

Following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), former Ghana U-17 coach Laryea Kingston has voiced her strong support for Black Stars coach Otto Addo and urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to withstand calls for a change in leadership.

In an interview with Flashscore, Kingston cautioned that the national team may suffer more defeats if Addo and the technical staff are replaced at this point.

“If we change the coach and the technical team and bring new faces, it will be a disaster,” Kingston said. “I think we should allow him to at least finish the World Cup qualifiers – who knows? Maybe he can qualify. And then after that, we make a decision as a country. So we should give him another opportunity.”

Following Ghana’s dismal performance in the AFCON qualifiers—where they only managed three points from six games and failed to win a single match—Kingston’s remarks come amid widespread displeasure.

On Wednesday, the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association will convene to assess the team’s performance and decide how to proceed.
