During Sunday night’s Ligue 1 match between Stade Rennais and Lille, Ghanaian defender Alidu Seidu sustained a critical injury.
Only 17 minutes after making an unfortunate fall and rupturing the cruciate ligaments in his left knee, the Black Stars right-back was replaced.
The Ghanaian was treated on the field for a few minutes before being replaced by Senegalese defender Mikayil Faye, who was subsequently seen using crutches.
On Monday, Seidu will have a scan to ascertain the severity of his injuries and the duration of his absence.
“I can’t diagnose; we will do tests tomorrow,” said Rennais manager Jorge Sampaoli.
At Decathlon Arena-Stade Pierre-Mauroy, Edon Zhegrova’s goal in the first half gave Lille all three points.
Since joining Rennais in January 2024, Seidu has played a significant role for the Red and Blacks, winning Player of the Month in September.
Due to an injury, the 24-year-old was unable to play in Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Niger.
