Due to an injury, defender Gideon Mensah will not play in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar.

After being examined by the medical staff for a season-long knee ailment, the left back who returned to camp on Monday, AJ Auxerre, has been excused from the match.

“Gideon had a knee injury throughout the course of the season, but his team treated him cautiously up to the end of the campaign. Dr. Prince Pambo, the team’s medical director, told ghanafa.org that following an evaluation in camp on Monday, the decision was made to exempt him from this game in order to prevent aggravating the ailment.

“We expect him to have enough rest during the break to be able to recover on time for next season” Dr. Pambo added.

Gideon Mensah, who made his debut for Ghana in a 2019 match against South Africa, has competed in one Africa Cup of Nations competition and the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.

On Tuesday, June 13, 2023, Ghana will continue with the preparations at the Accra Sports stadium.
