Otto Addo, the coach of the Black Stars, has been advised by former Ghanaian coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor A.K.A, C.K Akonnor to focus on the team’s defense.
The World Cup qualifiers were Otto Addo’s first competitive games as coach, and the Black Stars won both of them.
It is Akonnor’s opinion that the club needs to address several defensive weaknesses before the qualifiers return in March of the following year.
“For me, I look at how we are playing. You look at our attacking options, we create chances, and we are good to go. If we continue like that and probably work a little bit on our defensive abilities to be able to defend very well,” he told Citi Sports.
“We must be able to defend when we don’t have the ball which is very key,” he added.
Even while Akonnor acknowledged the shortcomings of Ghana’s defense, the former Black Stars star was nonetheless impressed by the team’s offensive.
“Going forward, we’ve shown a lot of good signs, how we attack, how we create chances to score goals, and in Mali though we won we created a lot of chances,” concluded Akonnor.
