Ghanaians will learn to appreciate head coach Otto Addo’s leadership in the years to come, according to Black Stars general manager Ameenu Shardow.
Ameenu Shardow’s comment come after Ghana’s remarkable comeback in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying round, where the national team defeated Chad and Madagascar handily in March.
These outcomes put an end to a concerning six-match losing streak in all competitions, which also prevented them from earning a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The bad run of play has put Addo under increasing pressure, with many calling for his termination.
But instead, the Ghana Football Association decided to support him and strengthened the technical staff.
“I know that, with the passage of time, all of us will come to appreciate [Otto Addo’s hard work],” Shardow said in an interview aired on Asempa FM.
“All of us—even though we were on edge—did a good job by keeping him, because he will be a blessing to us for many years to come.”
He added that Addo’s character and approach to coaching point to a promising future.
“He’s young, he’s driven, very passionate, and he’s willing to learn. He’s willing to listen to alternative perspectives.”
Ghana now tops Group I, three points ahead of Comoros, with four matches left in the qualifying campaign.
