Due to a thigh injury, Alexander Djiku, a defender for Ghana, will not play in the next Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
During his team’s encounter against Alanyaspor, the 30-year-old Fenerbahce player suffered an injury. He hobbled out in the 61st minute.
After more scans, it was discovered that he had a Grade One strain in his right thigh’s quadriceps.
He would need to heal for 10–14 days, which will keep him out of the vital qualifiers. Djiku played a significant role in Otto Addo’s 23-man qualification squad. Given that a standby list is reportedly in place, the coach may take a late look at a replacement in his absence.
Djiku has won 31 caps for the Black Stars since making his debut in October 2020, solidifying his place in the starting lineup for the national team.
Ghana’s preparation for these crucial games is severely hampered by his injury. Ghana’s next games are against Angola on September 5 at Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi and Niger in Morocco five days later.
