Alexandra Tay, a defender for the Black Princesses, hopes that her performance in the U-20 Women's World Cup in Poland would help her get called up to Ghana's senior squad, the Black Queens.

Tay, who is competing in her second U-20 World Cup, has previously advanced to the Black Queens after playing for Ghana in the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations.

In order to secure a spot in Ghana's squad for the FIFA Women's World Cup Brazil 2027 play-off event, the centre-back is now hoping to use her time in Poland to further her development.

Ghana, Chinese Taipei, Ecuador, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, and Uzbekistan are the six teams that will participate in the tournament's preliminary round.


Each club will play three games during the preliminary phase, which will run from November to December. The top two teams advance to the last stage.

Tay thinks the level of competition at the U-20 World Cup will be a great way to get ready for the difficulties that lie ahead at the senior level.

"Any time you get the opportunity to play in a tournament with such a high level of competition to build your performances and qualities, I think that is really helpful for us [to prepare]," Tay said to FIFA.



The defender is also anticipated to play when the Black Princesses play France in their last Group C match later today at the Arena Sosnowiec, with kickoff set for 16:00 GMT.

Thus, a victory over France would guarantee a historic spot in the knockout stage and be a major turning point for the Black Princesses.

Ghana has participated in every U-20 Women's World Cup since 2008, although they have never advanced past the group round.
