Benjamin Mendy signs for Ligue 1 club Lorient (Details)

Benjamin Mendy

Benjamin Mendy, a former Manchester City defender, has joined Ligue 1 club Lorient on a two-year contract.

Mendy was found not guilty of rape and attempted rape by a jury at Chester Crown Court on Friday. Earlier this year, the footballer was declared not guilty of sexual assaults on many women, but the jury was unable to reach verdicts on the two accusations, prompting a retrial.

When City paid £52 million to Monaco for Mendy in 2017, he became the Premier League’s most expensive defender.

He won three Premier League championships with City and was a member of France’s World Cup-winning side in 2018.

Mendy was released by City when his contract ended at the end of June, with his last appearance for the club coming in August 2021.
