Despite representing the English U-20 squad, Crystal Palace’s Jesurun Rak-Sakyi wants to play for the Ghanaian national team rather than England.

The 20-year-old attacker, who began his career in Chelsea’s junior system before joining Crystal Palace in 2019, is eligible to play for Ghana due to his parents’ citizenship. On August 14, 2021, he made his Premier League debut as a substitute against his previous team Chelsea.

Anthony Hayes, first-team coach of Charlton Athletic FC, confirmed Rak-Sakyi’s goals, saying, “Jes[urun Rak-Sakyi] has ambitions to play in the Premier League and represent Ghana, to play in the World Cup.” Hayes went on to say that the young youngster wants to perform on a large platform, which is why he wants to represent Ghana.

Currently, Rak-Sakyi is undertaking French classes after first-team training. He expressed his desire to learn the language to communicate with his potential Ghanaian teammates when he eventually joins the national team.

Last season, the attacker was on loan at Charlton Athletic, where he scored 15 goals in 43 games and helped the team finish 10th in the English League 1.

Rak-Sakyi’s availability might be a beneficial boost for the Ghanaian national team, which is battling struggles and striving to restore its standing as one of Africa’s best teams. The Ghana Football Association should begin the process of bringing the gifted kid into the senior national squad.
