Lamine Yamal Wins 2024 Golden Boy
Vicky López, a star of Barça Femení, earned the Golden Girl award, while Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal, the youngest winner of the 2024 Golden Boy award for the greatest under-21 men’s player in the globe, took home the Golden Boy on Wednesday.
Following in the footsteps of teammates Pedri and Gavi, Yamal, 17, is the third Barça player to win the men’s award in the last four years. After Linda Caicedo and Jule Brand, López took home the third edition of the women’s award.
Jude Bellingham of Real Madrid, who took home the trophy the previous year, is replaced by Yamal. Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, and Erling Haaland are among the other former winners since the prestigious award was instituted by the Italian sports publication Tuttosport in 2003.
Since making his debut for Barça’s senior team in 2023 at the age of 15, Yamal has garnered numerous honors, this one being the most recent.
He became the youngest recipient of the Kopa Trophy, which is given to the greatest under-21 player in men’s football, when he won it at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in October.
Yamal also finished eighth in the voting for the Ballon d’Or on the back of a breakout year for club and country, helping Spain win the European Championship last summer and playing a prominent role in a new-look Barça side under Hansi Flick.
