Mohammed Kudus must grow and learn to be a captain - Otto Addo

Black Stars coach Otto Addo explained Jordan Ayew’s selection as captain for the last round of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifications.

Mohammed Kudus was elected team captain after Thomas Partey missed last month’s doubleheader match against Sudan. Alexander Djiku and Jordan Ayew were all left out, which led to harsh criticism of Otto Addo’s and the technical team’s choice.

Jordan Ayew will captain the team for the games, Otto Addo stated to the media Thursday after releasing his roster for the last round of games against Angola and Niger.

The 45-year-old gave an explanation for his choice, stating that Mohammed Kudus still has a lot to learn about being a captain and that the Leicester City attacker will be the team’s leader.

“I think Mohammed Kudu still has a lot to learn about being a captain, so Jordan Ayew will captain the Black Stars in Thomas Partey’s absence.”

Prior to leaving for Luanda on Wednesday, the Black Stars will set up camp in Accra on Sunday and conduct a number of training sessions at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Black Stars will be hosted at the Estádio 11 de Novembro on November 15, followed by a home match against Niger Republic three days later at the Accra Sports Stadium.
