Gideon Mensah: “We’ll be available for any potential Sudan slip.”
Gideon Mensah, the left-back for Ghana’s Black Stars, has stated his belief that his team is ready to take advantage of any opportunities that may arise from Sudan’s possible mistakes in the closing stages of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying tournament.
The Black Stars must hope that Sudan falters in their next two games against Niger and Angola because Ghana’s hopes of qualifying are dependent on outcomes beyond their control.
Ghana’s performance and Sudan’s outcomes will eventually decide if Ghana qualifies for the tournament in Morocco.
For the Black Stars, the calculation is straightforward but difficult: they need to defeat Angola and Niger in their remaining games while praying Sudan loses both. Ghana’s hopes of qualifying for the AFCON would be dashed if Sudan managed to draw even once.
Before concluding the qualifiers at home against Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, November 18, Ghana will play Angola in Luanda on Friday, November 15.
With just two points from four games, Ghana is currently ten points behind Angola and five points behind Sudan in third place in Group F.
