Full-back for the Black Stars Gideon Mensah has talked candidly about his unsuccessful five-year transfer to FC Barcelona, one of the biggest teams in Europe.
A breach of confidentially caused the possible move to Barcelona to fall through. Gideon Mensah was offered a loan to Barcelona in 2019 while still at Salzburg to serve as Jordi Alba’s backup.
However, the confidentiality agreement was broken when word of the deal emerged too soon.
Mensah was saddened as he considered the lost chance that may have molded his career after this led the transfer to fall through.
Mensah admitted to Flashscore, “I couldn’t help but think about the next flight to Spain.”
The word that Barcelona wanted me was all across Ghana the following day. In order to find out why I hadn’t spoken to anyone, I called my agency.
“He doesn’t know how the news got out,” the agent added.
Gideon Mensah has almost 30 caps for Ghana’s Black Stars at the international level and is presently a player for AJ Auxerre in Ligue 1.
