Michael Awuah Mensah, a recent addition to Hearts of Oak, has asked the team’s supporters to keep believing in them as they prepare for the forthcoming Ghana Premier League season.
The Phobians, who finished 14th in the league table the previous season and nearly avoided relegation, lost to Asante Kotoko 2-1 in the first-ever Democracy Cup. The fact that they had lost to their bitter rivals for the third time raised fears among supporters.
Mensah, who transferred from Nations FC to the club, is upbeat about the future of the group in spite of these failures. He emphasized the value of the supporters’ constant support and showed faith in the club’s management and their initiatives to raise the team’s performance.
“We were hurt after falling short to Kotoko in the Democracy Cup. We wanted to lift the trophy to appease our fans after a disappointing season,” Mensah said in an interview.
“I will urge the fans not to lose hope in the team. The fans should exercise patience. I believe the leadership of the club are working around the clock to make things better.”
Mensah is resolved to make a major contribution to the squad’s success after agreeing to a three-year contract with the Accra-based team. “Nobody should be surprised if Hearts of Oak wins the league,” he continued. We are capable of winning the league. Since Hearts of Oak is a large club, our league championship would not be shocking.
The signing of Mensah and the club’s continued efforts to bolster the team have Hearts of Oak supporters optimistic about a more fruitful season to come.
