Samuel Kuffour, a former Ghanaian defender, has wagered $5,000 on Asante Kotoko to win the 2026–2027 Ghana Premier League.
The audacious assertion was made by the former center back for AS Roma and Bayern Munich while speaking with football supporters following a "Monday Stars" game in Accra.
When asked which team he thought would win the league, Kuffour said, "Asante Kotoko will win the league."
A GHS 10,000 bet was first suggested by several supporters who dared the former Ghanaian international to back up his prediction with cash.
Kuffour, however, raised the stakes.
"Let's increase it to $5,000. Kotoko will win the league, I promise you," he declared.
Despite Kotoko losing points on the first weekend of the season, he remains confident.
At Golden City Park in Berekum, league rookies Debibi United held the Porcupine Warriors to a 2-2 draw.
When Kotoko hosts Heart of Lions at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday for their Matchday Two match, they will be looking to win their first game of the season.
Kuffour, who also played for King Faisal during his career, won the UEFA Champions League with Bayern Munich in 2001.
